The Crystal Observation and Research Zone, or CORZ is a small outpost at the border of the Crystal Zone where Theron has been conducting a multitude of experiments and other research. Below is a list of ongoing or completed experiments.
1. Crystal growth conditions and speed (Completed) - The first and most critical experiment was to determine how the crystal growth actually spread. by placing a number of different flora and fauna at varying distances from the border, he sought to determine the nature of the transformation. The conclusion was that biological materials brought into the crystal zone was not affected by the crystal growth, but only materials at the "event horizon" were afflicted. further testing determined that the crystal growth only activated when the border expanded. current hypothesis is that the artifact/weapon that is causing the crystal growth is pulsing at regular intervals, gradually expanding its area of influence. The benefit of this research is confirmation that spending time within the crystal zone does not put the party or workers in danger of being afflicted by the crystal growth. however care should be taken when entering the crystal zone, as it might be unlikely, but crossing the threshold at the time of a pulse would be dangerous. next plan, set up monitoring station to scan and predict future pulses.

During his downtime, he ventures out into the crystal zone to identify crystal formations, focusing on ones with magical energy rather than mundane crystals and gems.

- Determine if there is a correlation between the type of crystal generated, and the material it generated on.
- catalog the different types of crystals, and determine a method for easy identification to increase mining productivity.
- Collect and assortment of candidate crystals for making solarian weapon crystals, among other useful crystals that could benefit himself or the party.
